Gauleyfest Weekend, September 18, 2014
This would be my third weekend in West Virginia for Gauley River Releases. I drove to Summersville, WV to get the Keelhauler campsite at Battle Run campground on Lake Summersville and the next morning drove to Friendsville, Maryland to paddle the Upper Yough. The new American Whitewater takeout parking lot was half full and thats a lot of vehicles when you think about how many cars also were at the putin. It was a great group of Anelise, Cliff, Michael, Mat, Kasey, and Jeff. Everyone had great runs and the weather was nice and warm. We drove to Summersville to eat Mexican and I got everyone settled in for camping. The next morning was a Gauley marathon with Bill W, Mat, Tonya, and Cliff. Gauleyfest was unseasonably warm and sunny and there was the largest attendance at the festival and on the river I can remember in about 10 years. The next day also was sunny for our runs. A great third weekend of Gauley season!!! /hugh
