North Fork, Fr. Broad R., May 15, 2013
The North Fork of the French Broad and the nearby West Fork were both at the top of my list of rivers to get on for the first time. Today would be my nineth new river this year when I joined Vin Davis and Dan Thomas for a low water run. The river was definitely more than a handful and surprised me. Boxcar and Submarine were world class rapids and Razorback, Clog, and Vortex were difficult as they moved through fast technical lines around blind corners. This would be my first day of the year to paddle on a warm day without my dry suit. It's about time!! Can't wait to come back! /hugh
