Williams River, WV, May 12, 2013
This would be the second day of our Keelhauler Canoe Club trip to West Virginia. The rain stopped during the night but the temperature was in the high 30's when we awoke and broke camp at the Summersville Lake Retreat. Our organizer Dr. David Herron had been going over river levels and we were excited to have enough water to paddle the seldom-run Williams River from Tea Creek to Three Forks of Williams. We drove along the Cranberry River and saw it was very clogged with wood from the recent floods. We put in at the bridge at the Tea Creek Camp Ground. We ran into Doug Ackerman and his group of West Virginia paddlers. We drove up slowly and scouted for wood and strainers and noticed some danger areas, then ran shuttle. It would be a misty day in the mid 40's and I wondered if I would ever get to get out of my drysuit an paddle this year. Our group was David, Cliff, Jen, Phil, Jim, Tara, and I. There were a lot of rapids and miles of fun boogy water. The last rapid was a fun boof into current from river right. We socialized and snacked at the takeout and everyone started their long drives back home. I drove to Louisville to see Cooper before his proceedure this week. A wonderful weekend!!! /hugh
