Lower Gauley River, Sept 16 & 18, 2011
I was so very excited that Lori could join Susan & I for Gauleyfest. Susan & I picked her up Thurs pm at the airport in Pittsburg and we had dinner at the Union Grill in Washington, Pa. We had a good drive to Summersville and on Friday Lori outfitted her new Jackson Rock Star in tour motel room. With Susan acting as Shuttle Bunny par excellent, we put in at Wood's Ferry and had a good warmup in the remaining half of the Middle Gauley. I took her on the advanced right line at Koontz Floom and we had great runs and our pictures were taken. I showed her my 3 favorite spots at Rocky Top, Lower Mash, & Stairsteps. We stayed for hours surfing at Diagonal Ledges and ended with good runs at Pure Screaming Hell. It was so nice to paddle just with Lori today. When we arrived at the takeout at Swiss our Shuttle Bunny was waiting and we drove to Pies & Pints in Fayettville for a great dinner. On Sunday we paddled with Cathy, Annelies, Bill, Jim, & Patrick. Another big day surfing at Diagonal Ledges. I became intimate with the big lower right hole at Koontz Floom without ill results. Another trip to Pies & Pints and a good drive to Spartanburg listing to the Falcons defeat Philadelphia. Probably my last trip in my truck before I sell it. What a great weekend!!! /hugh
