Upper Gauley River, 9/26/09

I was excited about taking my friend Tim Gill down the Upper Gauley for the first time. He rode up with Kevin Shipley who had taught me the right line above Bear Creek Falls on the Cheoah River. We were joined by fellow Keel-Hauler Canoe Club members Joe Marksz, Tom Sutton, and Dorian. The star of the show was Dorian who paddled a kevlar slalom boat and actually eddied out behind the pillow at Pillow Rapid, then attained the rapid! What an inspiration. Kevin showed us how to scout Insignificant (at least the right line). Everyone did great except that within sight of the takeout I was run over a raft and blew the run. Great day guys!!
