Green River Narrows, 11/25/08
I met Tom Sutton on the Upper Gauley River in September 2007 when I made my frist kayak descent of this class V adventure. This year we have paddled it 3 times together. Tom called me Friday morning from work in Tampa, Florida to see if I was paddling the weekend. He had planned to run the Tallulah release but it was cancelled due to drought as it had been last year. Ted Cookson returned my call & invited us to do the Green Narrows with he, Terran, & Jeff. I was not up to this as I was having a confidence low having swam on the Cheoah 3 weeks earlier. I dropped the guys with their boats at the top, did a 4 mile trail run followed by a steep climb, and still beat them to the meat of the river to photograph them on this beautiful fall day. I was also glad to see Ann Sontheimer and Chris Port paddling the river and got some good shots of them also. I ran back and drove to the takeout and met them. Everyone had done well! Tom & I ate Thai dishes and roast duck at Thai Taste in Spartanburg and the next day paddled section IX down to the Stackhouse in the ice & wind. Hurry back Tom /hugh
