French Broad Section IX, Sat. Feb 16, 2008
Today I finally hooked up with Glenn Stryker to take him kayaking on Section IX of the French Broad River in North Carloina. I paddled with Glenn at the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte the end of the summer and told him that after we finished Gauley season and I got back from my creeking in Panama I would introduce him to the local rivers. I picked him up in Columbus, NC and we met Lou, Chester, and Dan at the put in. His Dagger GT was outfitted and ready to go. It was 59 degrees which was so very much better than on Wednesday when Lou, Dan, & I paddled. Then it was 28 degrees when we got on the river and 24 when we got off. Lou had to physically break the Ice from his PFD to get out his car keys that day! Today was beautiful and the river was at 1400 cfs which is great. The paddling was great and Glenn didn't flip or swim. He even took Kyaker's Ledge (aka Needle Falls) with great style! It was great to paddle with Chester again too! Dan & Lou successfully negotiated Frank Bell's Rapid. See you on the river guys! /hugh
