New River, 8/30&31/08

I joined the Carolina Canoe Club at Ray's Campground in Hico, West Virginia for a long labor day weekend of paddling. On Friday the water was high for a rare run down the Drys of the New but I didn't get there in time. Saturday we did the run from Cunard to Fayette Station ("The Gorge") at a level of 4ft. On Sunday the level had fallen to 1.2 feet so we did the run from Glade Creek to Grandview Sandbar. Beautiful day, great people, and a great campsite. Compliments to our guides John Z., Lisa, and Ron. I especially enjoyed the company of Bob, Judith, and Judy on the river. See you all on the river. /hugh
