Paddling the Tyger River With Dr Wilson Smith 6/25/04
Four years ago one of the paddling legends of our area introduced me to the Tyger River in the Southern part of Spartanburg County. I'm referring to Dr. Wilson Smith, my esteemed coleague in the art, science, and practice of medicine. Today I was fortunate that we were both able to spend a rainy Friday afternoon on the river with no time restraints. That's rare. We have had very heavy rains now for two weeks and this afternoon was no exception. At the big surfing rapid it really poured but the river was very warm and the rain fell very warmly as well and we didn't miss a turn in the playspot. It couldn't have been a more pleasant afternoon. /hugh
