Paddling the Nantahala with Steve Geny, 5/16/03

It's been a very rainy spring and it's really kept me off the river. It's even kept me off the lake for eskimo roll practice. Today, however I finally got to the Nantahala for the first time since the fall. I met Randy Riddle who gave me a ride up to the top and we find we have a lot of common friends. I met Steve Geny at the top and we paddled together for a TRULY GREAT DAY! The turbines at the dam have been repaired and guess what? The river is going to run a higher level from now on! How Great! /hugh

I gave some paddlers a ride to the top, locked up my Big Easy and equipment to this sign at the put-in, and then drove to Endless River Outfitters to buy a yearly river pass (orange this year).

I got the best parking place at the NOC that I've ever had. I hitched a ride with Randy Riddle to the top.

Here I met Steve Geny from Nashville, TN and his Dagger RPM. The day was cloudy so we wore visors but it cleared later. The river was high and we later found that this is the new level!

Back at the top we bid farewell. See you on the river Steve!

The falls were unrecogniseable compared to last year & the drought.
