The Green River At Flood Stage, 4/18/03
I woke up on Good Friday with the office closed and was disappointed that it was raining so hard that the street was a river and the lake was way up in the back yard. Susan had to work and I had planned to paddle the Nantahala for the first time this season. It had been in the high 70's but today it was 42 degrees. The TV was telling about flash floods so I packed up my camera to see what the Green River looked like. I just happened to take my Godzilla just in case I could paddle. I was surprised how much water was running and most of the surfing spots were not identifiable. The rock in the middle at surfer's rapid was barely visible. I paddled, froze, but as always, wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else in the world that day! /Hugh

Big Korky was washed out and flowed straight through.
There was no hill to slide down at the put in. The water was so high.
You could head off through the woods from the put in.
