Nantahala Kayaking Class, May 4-6/2001

The Nantahala Outdoor Center is located in Wesser, NC where the Appalachian trail crosses the Nantahala River. Most people know the NOC for their rafting trips but there is so much more. Four adventurous souls interested in improving river skills reported in Fri 5/4/01 for Intermediate Level 1 instruction. First we had a reception and then ate. Then classroom, exercises, discussions, introductions, and videos. In the class were Ann, Suzanne, Gary, and myself(Hugh). Suzanne's boyfriend Greg joined us but mostly raced (he fit in a couple rescues!) Our instructor was Scott Hinkle from Greensboro, NC. He is accomplished in kayaking and many outdoor activities. No one could have asked for a better insrtructor! The amount of teaching and river time he crammed into the weekend widely exceeded my expectations! At the end of the trip we were carrying our kayaks back up to rerun Nantahala Falls! What a group of good sports our participants were! See ya on the river!
