Naomi, Ken, John, Byron, and Hugh visited and inspected Bangkok Christian Hospital accompanied by our Bangkok tour guide Nora. Our host for the day was Deputy Chief of Surgery Jirasak Wongsrichanalai. Most of our interests were surgical and fiscal but we each inspected our individual special areas.
The hospital currently has 600 beds. The outpatient department sees 1500 patients a day for physician visits or proceedures. Apporximately 100 babies are delivered each month in the 3 delivery rooms by the 12 full-time obstetricians. Six OR's are used about 4 times each per day by the 4 full-time and 20 part-time surgeons and the recovery room was state of the art. The large pediatric clinic is staffed by 20 full-time pediatricians and functioned very similarly to an American hospital clinic. The pharmacy was solely allipathic (western medicine) and huge. The lab was not busy according to American use patterns and had no frozen section capabilities. Rooms were reminescent of 1970's American rooms and ranged from 1 to 4 beds. The hospital and clinics were spotlessly clean. The nurses were extremely professional and often wore their caps. We were free to inspect whatever we chose and were helped by the friendly staff. Our report to AIMS will be very favorable! Don't miss a chance to visit or volunteer if you ever have a chance!
